Introduction
The Pikeville Police Department is considered to be one of the best departments statewide. Our officers are well-trained, highly motivated men and women. Each officer receives extensive and ongoing training through the Department of Criminal Justice training. We have officers with continuing education certifications in such areas as: Collision Reconstruction, Drug Recognition, Child and Spouse Abuse, and Narcotics Investigation.
Currently the Department has twenty-two officers and provides twenty-four hour coverage for the citizens of Pikeville. Our Patrol Division has an average response time of less than seven minutes. We are a child safety seat inspection station that helps educate the community on the proper usage and importance of child safety seats. We assist the Pikeville Independent Schools with the D.A.R.E. program and security for sporting events. We also have officers active with UNITE Pike, an organization which aids in combating this region drug problem. We have an officer currently participating in AHIDTA (Appalachian High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area). In conjunction with the 911 Center, we offer various programs and tours to schools and organizations to help educate them as to the services we provide the community. We utilize a portable speed trailer to aid in areas of the city that have been identified with traffic problems. We offer fingerprinting services to various organizations within the city. The entire Department is intent on serving the community in which every capacity we can be most effective. We as a Department are always open to community comment and solicit your input to help improve the quality of life in our city.
